Information sheet
We invite you to participate in a research project. However, before agreeing to participate in this project, please take the time to read, understand, and carefully consider the following information.
Description of the project and its objectives
This study aims to examine the institutional policies relating to the appointment and promotion of academic staff, as well as their impact on research practices, academic integrity, and well-being. The questionnaire will be available between March 1st and March 30th 2026.
Nature and duration of participation
By agreeing to participate in this research project, you will be asked to complete an online questionnaire lasting approximately 10-15 minutes at a time of your choosing. The questions will focus on academics’ perceptions of institutional policies governing promotion, rewards, and publication practices, as well as the perceived pressures and impacts associated with these policies on research practices, scholarly publishing, academic integrity, and researchers’ well-being.
Benefits of participation
There is no direct personal benefit. However, your contribution will help to improve understanding of academic publishing practices, research integrity, and institutional research evaluation policies internationally.
Risks and inconvenience of participation
The time required to complete the questionnaire is the main inconvenience associated with your participation. No physical, psychological, social, or legal risks are anticipated. A small number of questions may prompt mild professional discomfort, as they ask about institutional practices. You may exit the questionnaire at any time before submitting, without consequences.
Confidentiality and data protection
Your participation is completely anonymous. Only your responses to the questionnaire will be collected as research data. No data that could identify you will be collected. All information collected will remain confidential. Data collected through LimeSurvey will be stored securely on encrypted servers located at the Université de Montréal. If personal identifiers is given (e.g., name), they will be deleted prior to any data analysis. The anonymized data will be stored on a password-protected external drive. The data collected will be used by the research team to meet the scientific objectives of the project. These research data will be kept indefinitely by the researcher responsible for this research project. Published results will be presented in aggregate form only, ensuring that no participant can be identified.
Important: Withdrawal of Data
Because all data are anonymous, it will be impossible to withdraw your responses after submission, as we will not be able to identify which answers are yours.
Secondary use of data
Anonymized data may be reused for future research on academic publishing, research evaluation, or research integrity. Any future use will require approval from a research ethics board.
Voluntary participation and withdrawal
You may refuse to participate or stop at any time before submitting the questionnaire, without penalty.
Compensation
No financial compensation is offered to participants.
Dissemination of Results
Findings will be reported in aggregate form in an edited volume and in related scholarly publications or presentations.
Ethics approval
The project has been approved by the Research Ethics Committee in Education and Psychology of the Université de Montréal (No. CEREP-2025-7471).
